Welcome to VASCO

A Malawian non-profit organization working with vulnerable and marginalised communities to strengthen livelihoods, protect the environment and advance sustainable development.

Building stronger communities from the ground up

Voluntary Actions for Sustainable Communities Organisation (VASCO) is a locally rooted Malawian NGO committed to empowering vulnerable and marginalised communities to become active participants in shaping their own development.

We work alongside communities, local institutions, civil society organisations, government stakeholders and development partners to address interconnected social, economic, environmental and governance challenges.

Our approach is participatory, inclusive and community-driven. We believe sustainable development is strongest when communities identify their priorities, mobilise their own strengths, participate in decision-making and take ownership of solutions that affect their lives.

Our vision, mission and motto

Our core values

Equity and Inclusion

We promote equal opportunities and meaningful participation, particularly for vulnerable and marginalised groups.

We believe people should have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives and communities.

We uphold openness, responsible stewardship of resources and accountability to communities, partners and other stakeholders.

Integrity

We act honestly, ethically and responsibly in all our programmes, partnerships and institutional activities.

Our approach

VASCO uses a community-centred and participatory approach. We work alongside communities rather than imposing externally designed solutions.

Communities at the centre

VASCO believes that communities are not merely beneficiaries of development. They are partners, decision-makers and agents of change. Our approach is built around:

Participation

Communities actively shape the solutions that affect them.

Inclusion

No one should be left behind because of vulnerability or marginalisation.

Empowerment

Strengthening people's knowledge, skills, confidence and ability to act.

Sustainability

Promoting solutions that generate lasting social, economic and environmental benefits.

Partnership

Working collaboratively with communities, government, civil society and development partners.
